My home office network has a changing WAN IP address and uses NAT with DHCP addressing behind the DSL modem supporting a 20 meg down / 5 meg up speed for all the networked devices.
Can I connect this Cisco CVPN3005 to my home network and have it request a DHCP address to be a device on my home network?
I use the DynDNS client on a PC on the network which takes the WAN address and associates it with a domain name. I can then access any device on my home network by using this DNS name regardless of when the WAN address changes.
Can I then use a 64 bit Windows 7 PC from another location and connect to this VPN concentrator via the internet and have this PC receive an IP address via my home DHCP server so that this PC is then sending and receiving all of it’s traffic from my home office network?
Do I need special VPN client software to connect to the concentrator?
My intent is to have my Windows 7 PC become a device on my home office network and use my home DSL line for all the traffic, once connected.
Will this Cisco CVPN3005 provide the VPN functionality I desire? Thank-you…
Yes, you will be able to connect to this device with a Windows 7 64-bit PC. You can use a Cisco VPN client to do so, or a PPTP connection from your OS.
Although it may be possible to configure DHCP to assign an IP address from a local network to a remotely connected VPN client, the usual practice is to create a separate subnet for the remote clients and route between the subnets. This will allow greater flexibility and security.
Please not that your requirements may require deep technical knowledge to configure.
