What is the difference between the Cisco GSR 12000 and the XR 12000?

I believe you can convert GSR to XR by converting IOS to IOS XR, but is the difference only the software or do the XR-12000 Chassis have hardware differences as well?

The Cisco XR 12404 router scales the Internet Service Provider edge from speeds of T3/E3 (44.7/34.4 Mbps) up to OC-192/STM-64 or 10GE (10 Gbps). Network interfaces reside on the line cards that provide the connection between the router's CSF and the external networks. The bottom slot is a dedicated slot for the combined CSF card.
